There is a nice blend of history and flavour in Cane Garden Bay, Tortola. Once a prolific sugar-producing area, the area now holds the last rum maker in the BVI: the Callwood Rum Distillery, producer of Arundel Rum. If history is to be followed, this historical treasure should stand ground for many years to come.

Richard Callwood, Sr., a buccaneer, purchased part of what was then the Arundel estate, which has since been passed down from generation to generation. His great-grandson, Michael Callwood now runs the distillery, preserving the centuries-old technique that makes Arundel Rum stand out, including the use of a 200-odd year old stone plantation building that holds the boiler room and storage casks. Drop by for a visit - the distillery is a must-see, as are its beautiful surroundings.

Arundel Rum's taste is truly unique, as it is made from sugar cane juice and not molasses, the traditional mode of preparation. The best news is that the distillers say it is "proven to cause no hangovers!" Try it for yourself. Spiced rum produced by the Callwood Distillery is a popular item in the BVI, but no matter which rum you prefer, you are guaranteed a distinctive taste found only in the BVI and that preserves the art of rum making and its Afro-Caribbean heritage.
